Careers After Graduation
Overall Goals for the School of Law Specialization
In the past, it was common for law students to prepare for the Bar Exam or civil service exam. At the same time, however, the bar exam system only lasted until 2016. Since then, students have been required to graduate from law school, a graduate program, to join the legal profession.
This paradigm shift was directly related to the career issues of undergraduate law students, and law majors were urgently required to prepare for it. Despite this paradigm shift, law studies have remained a highly sought-after field.
Law students have several career paths, including:
- 1. Acquiring various professional certifications such as a labor lawyer, judicial scrivener, or starting a business.
- 2. Becoming a civil servant by passing the exams for court officials, prosecutors, and general administrative officials.
- 3. Working in private or public companies' legal and sales teams.
- 4. Going to law school after graduation and passing the bar exam to become a lawyer.
- 5. Going to a general graduate school to work in research institutes and pursue academic research.
Prospects and Vision
Universities are striving to strengthen their educational competitiveness in preparation for the decline in the number of people of university age and the market opening for higher education. Universities are reducing the number of students to improve the efficiency of the university management system, reorganizing the curriculum to prepare human resources for social needs, increasing the number of full-time professors, and improving educational conditions by investing in facilities and equipment. Furthermore, universities are promoting various integrations and reorganizations among universities and reorganizing graduate schools. To enhance the competitiveness of Incheon National University in the 21st-century knowledge and information society, multiple efforts should be made to promote the creative and independent operation of the School of Law.
As the law school system has been implemented, it is necessary to strengthen the educational capabilities of the School of Law in the medium to long term to develop without a law school. Also, this will create an opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of Incheon National University.
The School of Law offers diversified and specialized programs to foster human resources with various abilities and qualities required in each field of society.
